Take Your Way Clubhouse

Introduction

Take Your Way Clubhouse was established in the autumn of 2001. It is a training and activities centre for ex-mentally ill persons, aims to reduce the labeling effect of disabled persons, and further develop their potentials and creativities.

The “Clubhouse Model” was adopted from United States which advocates the use of empowerment and mutual-help spirit for the purpose of raising the learning ability and confidence of people with disabilities, as well as developing their independence and significance in life.

Features of the service

1. Working Day (the former training centre)

Objectives

  1. Encourage members to participate actively in Centre’s operations and decisions, and raising their confidence.
  2. Provide diversified trainings, aiming to raise and restore their abilities in work and life.
  3. Encourage members and their parents to participate in the planning of personal rehabilitation plan.

Scope of Service

  1. Working Day Training (including pre-employment training, social and living skills training, etc.)
  2. Case work and supporting service (e.g. case interviews, visits, referrals, etc.)
  3. Employment consultation and arrangement (open, supported and transitional employment)
  4. Supported education (Encourage members to continue their education and set personal goals)
  5. Parents support service.

Service users

  1. Ex-mentally ill persons, aged 15 or above, and committed to working day.
  2. Stable mental status and no violent behavior in recent years.
  3. No severe disturbing behaviour e.g. drunk, drug abuse, serious gambling habit or infectious disease.

Application

  1. Referrals can be made by social workers
  2. Applicant is required to undertake an interview.
  3. Eligible person will become member when they accepted the service.

Withdrawal Procedure

Withdrawal application should be submitted to the Clubhouse staff.

Term of Service

Normally half year to two years of training period

Fee of charge, catered meal (at own expense)

Opening hours

Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Closed on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays

2. Transitional Employment Project

Introduction

Provide employment trainings to ex-mentally ill persons through transitional jobs in partner companies or organizations, which helps to develop their working skills and prepare for open employment.

Features of the Project

  1. The partner companies or organizations provide employment opportunities (around 15-20 working hours per week) to participants.
  2. The Clubhouse provides supports and trainings for participants, especially in the early stages of employment.
  3. Hourly wages, can make reference to the related market level.
  4. Participate engaged in a position for 6-9 months and superseded by another participant thereafter.
  5. For those unmeet the level of working requirement, Clubhouse will arrange another participant to take up the duty as soon as possible.
  6. The nature of jobs includes general clerical works, simple computer support, office assistant, cashier, sales, gardening, reception, courier, cleaning, etc.

3. Community Support Team

Since April 2003, we have integrated the Social Club, Community Link Service and Community Mental Health Link into Community Support Service Team, aims to provide more suitable service and support to ex-mentally ill persons.

Social Club

Objectives

  1. Provide and encourage members to participate in meaningful recreational activities;
  2. Assist members to develop supporting network;
  3. Provide an ideal platform for members to develop their interpersonal and communication skills.

Scope of Service

  1. Developmental and educational activities
  2. Volunteers training and community services
  3. Mutual help groups (members and their parents)
  4. Social and recreational activities

Service users

Ex-mentally ill persons, aged 15 or above, and their parents or carers

Application

  1. Referrals can be made by doctors, social workers, occupational therapists or nurses.
  2. Accept direct application
  3. Applicant is required to undertake an interview.

Term of Membership

No limited, members should renew membership annually

Withdrawal application should be submitted to the Clubhouse staff

Annual fee specified by Social Welfare Department

  • Tuesday, Thursday: 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday: 12:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Closed on Sunday and public holidays

Community Link Service / Community Mental Health Link

Introduction

Provided services include supportive service, counseling, activities and referrals to ex-mentally ill persons and their parents or carers in Shatin or Ma On Shan district.

We serve the needy through outreaches and home visits, assists them to develop supporting network, raise the public awareness on ex-mentally ill persons and advocate a mutual helps and harmonious spirits.

Objectives

  1. Encourage mutual help between members
  2. Assist members to develop community supporting network
  3. Provide and encourage members to participate in meaningful recreational activities

Scope of Service

  1. Outreach and home visit
  2. Referral to appropriate service
  3. Variety of social and recreational activities
  4. Personal and group counseling
  5. Assist members to develop self-organized group activities
  6. Community educational activities

Service users

  1. Ex-mentally ill persons, aged 15 or above, and their parents or carers
  2. Non acceptance of ex-mentally ill persons whom belonged to day or hostel rehabilitation services.

Application

  • Referral can be made by doctors or social workers
  • Submit application directly to Take Your Way Clubhouse / Community Mental Health Link.

Withdrawal Procedure

  • Withdrawal application should be submitted to the Clubhouse staff

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (except outreach visit)
  • Tuesday, Thursday: 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. (except outreach visit)
  • Saturday: 12:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (except outreach visit)
  • Closed on Sunday and public holidays
